As author of “Trapped” my interest in Northern Ireland (NI) was born out of visiting there and my husband’s ancestry. My husband, Ron, is 67% Irish. Ron’s ancestor, John Ward, born in Antrim, NI, moved to the United States in the 1700s. Ron’s grandfather’s surname was Hughes whose ancestors were also from Ireland. Presently, there are many Wards and Hughes in NI. A genealogist told us that Ron’s ancestors were Protestant. My ancestors were Catholic. Thankfully, there is no sectarian conflict in our marriage. I’m 12% Irish and 66% French. My ancestors on both sides migrated from France to Canada mid-1600s.
