Newgrange was built in 3200 BC for passage onto the afterlife and perhaps also used as a temple. It was built 500 years before the great pyramids. How the ancient people moved the large stones is a mystery. In the photo, notice a “roof box” located above the entrance to the mound. This roof box was designed to align with the rising sun during the winter solstice. Because of its design, the sun shines through the box far into an inner chamber but only a few mornings each year. It’s an interesting experience. If you zoom in, you can see megalithic art on the large stones. These stone age people were pretty smart, I think.
