Why is western Washington State (WW) green and lush? Because moisture blows inland from the ocean. When it hits the high Cascade Mountain range, the moist air is diverted into the atmosphere, creating heavy cloud cover and consistent rainfall. Because the moisture is diverted, Eastern Washington (EW) is semi-arid brown with mostly sage brush. Two exceptions, the mountains have pine trees, and residential and agricultural lands are irrigated. EW has four seasons. For about 2 weeks respectively, summer climbs to 100° and winter dips down to 10°. When you’re tired of the heat or cold, you know it’ll change. A snowy landscape is gorgeous and great recreation. My opinion, anyway. WW has one season which ranges from 46° to 80°, less extreme than EW.
Why does Washington State have such diverse weather?
