Cowboys aren’t just in Texas and Colorado. There are several cattle ranches in north central Washington State. While visiting friends 20 minutes away, I was pleasantly surprised to witness cowboys rounding up their cattle on horseback. Many still use horses and run their ranch as they have for generations. Unknowingly and happily, I had moved into a community of ranchers. My childhood home was 7 hours from the Atlantic Ocean, so I didn’t know about life 3,000 miles away in Washington State. This is before home computers, before Google. Information was not at our fingertips, like it is today. Washington is in the most northwestern corner of continental US, bordering Canada.
Cowboys aren’t just in Texas.
Cowboys are in Wyoming too!! in fact that’s where I thought all cowboys were for the longest time! it’s so interesting to me to read about Washington cowboys and Texas cowboys and to think of the Wyoming cowboys I know and to see that there are some constants in their attitudes and demeanors, among other things… not that there is any one size fits all cowboy personality but they have more in common than just those hats and dirty boots 🙂
