Beth Farell

Ed Farell’s sister was raped when he was at the impressable age of eleven. As an adult, he determined not to let that happen to his children, including Beth, so Ed sheltered them to the point of being controlling. Beth is the main character of The Captive.

Ed, attorney-at-law and wife, Carla Farell, were excited when their first child, Heather, arrived and no less thrilled with their third child, their only son David. Their second child, another girl, was not so exciting. That was Beth. Heather’s freckles added to her beauty, but they didn’t improve Beth’s average looks. At least, that’s what Beth thought.

Carla’s blatant favoritism of David only worked to bring the sisters closer. Beth and Heather noticed that Carla showed definite signs of disliking Beth for some unknown reason. That hurt Beth and challenged her sense of self-worth.
Beth couldn’t wait to get out from under her dad’s control and into the world. At age nineteen, she finished home schooling and began college. Freedom at last! Only a month into it and Beth was kidnapped.
